Cover Letter

Hi Neighbor,

My name is Sarah Rothberg and I am applying to represent you, my Ward 2 neighbors, on the Loveland City Council.

When I first moved to Loveland in 2016, I fell in love with the downtown, beautiful mountain view, and the lack of traffic. But I was also spending half of my income (working full-time with a bachelor’s degree) on a one-bedroom, basement apartment. Job changes for me and my now husband meant we moved around a bit, living in Longmont, downtown Denver, and Englewood. But in early 2022, we asked ourselves, “Now that we both work remotely, where do we really want to live?” We purchased our home soon after and love living here! We love the nature trails, library, incredible local businesses, and the perks of living in a full service city like municipal fiber internet!

I’m a public servant with for-profit and non-profit job experience. I’ve managed a production budget as the editor of a knitting magazine and an ad revenue budget for Hunger Free Colorado, and I currently work within the state budget with taxpayer dollars. I believe that the tax dollars spent by the government should benefit all of us and that tax breaks for businesses should go to things like helping our small local businesses get their start or weathering harsh economic times.

My formal education culminated in a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, a program that taught me the importance of people’s unique stories, experiences, and perspectives. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and continue to research topics like history and the issues we face as a society today. I plan to use my platform on the city council to uplift the voices of my neighbors, as well as nonprofits and other expert organizations, to tackle the issues we face as a city.

If elected to serve on the Loveland City Council, I plan to:

  • Get more affordable housing built in our city

  • Support small businesses and a thriving downtown

  • Give control over a portion of the general fund to the voters (it’s your money, you should decide what it gets spent on)

  • Improve transparency in city government and provide more opportunities to make decisions as a community

  • And more!

It is the greatest honor of my life to serve my community, and I hope I can continue to do so as one of your Ward 2 City Council representatives. You can learn more about my vision for Loveland (built with invaluable input from my neighbors and local experts) on the priorities page. And please always feel free to contact me with any suggestions or questions!

I sincerely thank you for your consideration,

Sarah Rothberg
